Pawan Kumar, Ph.D.

Vice President, Technical Operations

Dr. Pawan Kumar is Vice President, Technical Operations at Federation Bio. He led a rapid expansion of the company’s Technical Operations group to build out process and analytical development, manufacturing and quality functions.

Before joining Federation Bio, Dr. Kumar worked as a Senior Director of Process and Formulation Development at Revance Therapeutics. He built, trained and retained a high-performance process development group, instrumental to lead the Stage 1 and Stage 2 process validation activities of Daxi for injection, a longer lasting botulinum neurotoxin being developed for aesthetic and therapeutic indications. As a CMC lead, he oversaw cross-functional development to support a successful BLA submission that included manufacturing process, raw material and critical quality risk assessments; process characterization for DS, DP and a peptidyl excipient; DS and DP characterization; method development; and process, method and facility validation – both in-house and at a third party CMO.

Before joining Revance, Dr. Kumar was an Associate Director in the Technical Operations group at Portola Pharmaceuticals, where he led process characterization studies to support Andexanet BLA submission. Prior to Portola, he held various scientific positions leading up to Associate Director of Process and Analytical Development and Manufacturing at Alvine Pharmaceuticals. At Alvine, he was a technical lead, responsible for chemistry, manufacturing and controls activities for pre-clinical and clinical programs for ALV003, a combination protease therapy under development to treat Celiac Disease.

Dr. Kumar conducted his doctoral research at Stanford University under Dr. Chaitan Khosla and his postdoctoral research at University of California Berkeley under Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi. He has authored several INDs and BLAs, as well as more than 10 patents and publications.
